Srinagar, June 17: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has condemned thrashing of Dr Naseer by a mob today early morning at SDH Bandipora.
“Dr Naseer along with his staff was attending patients in routine when at 9 am a case of Road Traffic accident (RTA) was brought by some attendants. As the said doctor was busy with treating patients and the patient brought in was a case of mild injury, he told them to wait for some time. On hearing this, the attendants got impatient and berserk and assaulted the said doctor like professional goons,” said Dr Mir Mushtaq general secretary DAK adding that the said doctor is admitted in SKIMS with severe head and face injuries and has been advised for CT Scan and other investigative procedures.
According to Dr Mir, the injured doctor has been advised for a neurosurgical consultation also. “We pray to almighty that he is out of danger and will recover soon. The said doctor has appealed for lodging an FIR through proper channel and DAK hopes that the health authorities and the District administration and police in particular will take strong measures to nab the culprits.”
A similar case of manhandling happened yesterday midnight at Block Saller, District Anantnag where Dr Sajad along with paramedic staff Mr Mushtaq was assaulted by some unruly mob.
“DAK condemns these acts of cowardice by some ill-mannered bunch of hooligans who are creating a dent and a breach of trust in the sacred Doctor-Patient Bond. These incidences are becoming a day to day affair and Govt’s lacklustre approach is a matter of deep agony for us.”
DAK has appealed all the doctors across state to unite and come forward to fight for this grave issue and thrust Govt. in addressing this matter as the Doctors are facing extreme risk while performing their duties.
“The hospitals are becoming battlefields and this insane pattern of atrocities perpetrated on doctors is intolerable. Moreover the healthcare system is in a state of complete disorder and the dearth of staff has led it to shambles. The inclusion of Three Tier Roster will deepen the crisis more and health personnel will be susceptible to more assaults keeping in view the extreme shortage of staff.”
There are serious lapses in healthcare planning and the root cause lies in the attitude of policy makers but in the process doctors often become victimized by unruly mobs.
DAK has said that it is anguished with the repeated physical assaults on doctors and there seems to be no end to it. Doctors work in most difficult conditions without even basic facilities in peripheral hospitals but still the paying no heed to their demands.
“DAK stresses the Govt. to bring an Ordinance and make manhandling of Doctors and damaging hospital infrastructure a Cognizable Offence as witnessed across various states of India. The Govt. has been testing the patience of Doctors and time has come that Doctors will be left with no other option but to launch a state wide agitation for pressing of their demands.”
