Doctors unite against public leaders’ assault on medical care provider



Udupi: Indian Medical Association Udupi – Karavali Branch and Dental Association doctors staged a silent protest on Saturday, 7th January, 2017 at the Clock Tower here in Udupi against the attack on doctors by Ananthakumar Hegde, Uttar Kannada MP at a hospital in Sirsi recently.

Dr. P V Bhandary, the Director of Dr. B V Baiga Memorial Hospital in Udupi said that there were several attacks on resident doctors now and then which most the doctors who provide medical services. “We strongly condemn the attack on doctors by the one who is supposed to safe guard the Indian Constitution by being a public leader.

Those who are supposed to protect the law in the society, break it by taking law into their hands. If there was a mistake from the doctor’s side, a case could be filed, but it would be not fair to assault on doctors”, he said.

Dr. Bhandary also said that the doctors are not given adequate security as well. The police at Sirsi are unable to arrest the culprit due to the pressure of Ananthakumar Hegde.

Later, Indian Medical Association and other official doctors submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister of Karnataka State through the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district at DC office in Manipal.

Dr. P V Bhandary, Dr. Madhusoodan Nayak, Dr. Murlidhar Patil, Dr. Venkatesh Shanbaug, Dr. Y S Rao, Dr. Harish Nayak, Dr, Sanjay Udupa, Dr. R N Bhat, Dr. D’Lima were present among others during the protest as well as at the DC office.
