Dr Nitu Singh was assaulted by Shakunti Devi inside labour room at District Hospital, Garhwa on Thursday night. To protest against the incident, doctors of the hospital boycotted duty on Friday. FIRs have been filed by both sides in Garhwa police station.
According to the FIR filed by Dr Nitu Singh, on Thursday night at around 7.30 when she was busy in an operation in labour room’s operation theatre one Sahiya Shakunti Devi a resident of Tiwari Marhtiya village under Garhwa police station reached our room and pressurised her to sign on a discharge slip. She came out of OT and said was busy for an immediate surgery and would sign on the slip after the operation. Then Sahiya manhandled and beaten her.
According to Garhwa O/C Niranjan Kumar, FIR has been lodged against Sahiya. On the other hand, Sahiya also filed a complaint with police saying “when I was going to affix signature on discharge slip woman doctor assaulted me”.
To protest against the assault of woman doctor, all doctors posted in hospital boycotted the duty and close down the OPD. Civil Surgeon Bindheswari Rajak said that Sahiya’s act is not tolerable. He said that all 16 doctors boycotted the duty on Friday and OPD was shut down. However, doctors on duty in emergency ward performed their duty.
