Ujjain: Doctors, medical and para-medical staff of Civil Hospital went on a strike on Monday to protest manhandling of a doctor on duty by relatives of a patient late on Sunday.
According to reports, Shaheen Bee of Begumpura was hospitalised after suffering from severe stomach ache. She was admitted to emergency ward. Dr Mahesh Trivedi was on duty in the night.
It was alleged that Shaheen’s brothers Saeed and Kallu of Madargate assaulted the doctor. Dr Trivedi said that the duo created a ruckus after their patient did not get any relief after treatment. They abused nursing staff. When Dr Trivedi intervened, they assaulted him before escaping from the scene.

On being informed, CSP Sachin Sharma visited the crime scene and took stock of incident. An FIR was registered under sections 323, 353, 332, 294 and 34 of the IPC against the accused with Central Kotwali police. While Saeed has been arrested, Kallu is on the run.
On Monday, nursing staff, ward boys and doctors went on a strike. They apprised SP Manohar Singh Verma and Divisional Commissioner MB Ojha of the incident and sought adequate security in hospital to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future.
