The Market Yard police on Monday arrested three persons on the charge of assaulting a doctor and other staff of the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The police said that Yallappa, Mallesh, Sanna Yallappa and Narasimhalu, all residents of Chandrabanda village of Raichur taluk, had brought a child who was suffering from some health issues to the teaching hospital attached to the RIMS on Sunday evening. When the child died failing to respond to the treatment, they physically assaulted Rajappa, the duty doctor, and other staff holding them responsible the death. Staff nurse Parsappa sustained head injuries in the attack.
The teaching and non-teaching staff RIMS staged a flash protest striking their work on Monday condemning the attack and seeking better security on the premises. The flash protest inconvenienced patients for a couple of hours. It was called off when Kavita Patil, director of RIMS, and police officers assured of stringent action on assaulters and better security measures on the premises.
Superintendent of Police Chetan Singh Rathor said that private security personnel would be replaced by Home Guards on RIMS premises. Dr. Rajappa and Mr. Parasappa filed a complaint and a case under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Mr. Yallappa, Mr. Mallesh, Mr. Sanna Yallappa and Mr. Narasimhalu and three of them were arrested.
