The IMA demands include passing of violence against doctors act in Chandigarh, inclusion of one member of IMA in the negligence committee as done in Haryana and other states, constitution of Chandigarh medical council.
Doctors associated with the city unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) extended support to their counterparts across the country and observed fast to press for their demands on Monday.
A statement issued by IMA Chandigarh said that a resolution was passed in the general body meeting and an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been written for his personal intervention. The IMA has warned if the demands are not met, they would be forced to go on an indefinite countrywide strike. The statement said that the IMA hold serious discussions with focus on the local issues of Chandigarh medical services.
“Heavy penalty of renewal of registration of clinical establishments running into thousands under CEA, whereas quacks who have not registered themselves for more than two years have gone scot free, with no action on these unregistered quacks… Drug stores in the nursing homes are not being allowed, which is disastrous for the patients and mandatory under CEA,” the statement said.
The IMA demands include passing of violence against doctors act in Chandigarh, inclusion of one member of IMA in the negligence committee as done in Haryana and other states, constitution of Chandigarh medical council. “The strict and outdated bylaws of UT Chandigarh have resulted in steep decline of nursing homes in Chandigarh,” the statement said.
